Elton John Tribute Concert - November 2004 - Sefton Park Palm House

Crocodile Rocking!
Concert review by Brian Christian
"A Tribute to Elton John" was the inspired idea of Dan Bishop and Andy Davey.  They gathered together a host of exciting young performers, and the result was two hours of musical magic.  The Palm House provided a wonderful setting, and with the Myriad Theatre's Ian Preston's colourful set as a backdrop, Dan and Andy, and their band took us through the Elton John catalogue from 'Goodbye Yellow Brick Road' to 'Songs from the West Coast'.  The Palm House was full to capacity and an enthusiastic audience needed no second invitation to take to the dance floor.

'A tribute to Elton John'
Concert review by Nick Basson
It was a cold snowy November night and Liverpool was about to witness another night of exciting and superbly executed music by two young musicians who served their apprenticeships in Liverpool Cathedral Choir. The event was "A tribute to Elton John" and the performers were Daniel Bishop and
Andrew Davey with ten supporting singers and instrumentalists. Dan and Andy, both former choristers, and still serving the Cathedral, Dan as Sub-Organist and Andy as Cross Guild member and occasional lay clerk, billed this concert as an evening of glamour and glitter that would be a night to remember. With solos and duets from the all the singers, some fast footwork by the sound technicians and some superb dexterity from the instrumentalists we heard thirty of the best love ballads and rock anthems that Elton John has
written over the last thirty years including, to name but a few, Your Song, Candle in the Wind, Blue Eyes, Sacrifice, Philadelphia Freedom, Crocodile Rock and, needless to say, Daniel! The excellent stage and
backdrop was provided by Ian Preston of the Myriad Theatre Company and added to the atmosphere within the wonderfully restored Palm House in Sefton Park.
To the disappointment of some and contrary to the expectation of others, there wasn't a ball gown in sight but Dan and Andy captured the magic of Elton John in a way that many tribute bands would be proud of and the exciting venue of the Palm House, the audience participation on the dance floor and the relaxed atmosphere in which you could be an old romantic or a party animal depending on your mood certainly made for an evening to remember.
